I never really have found people badly hurting themselves funny, some people seem to kind even bad accidents amazing and funny. I really dont get it. Is it normal to find it funny am I the weird one?|||paradox is a form of humour. It is human instinct to protect ourselves from hurt.It is the paradoxical behaviour of self harm that is seen as humorous.Medical staff in Accident and Emergency deots find it irritating. But that can be the same with all humour.Remember self harmers do not do it to get a laugh. To them this is not slap stick|||People doing off-the-wall things (incongruent acts) is usually hilarious and it's natural to laugh in such instances - it's easy to laugh like this a lot when people fall flat n their @sses in a weird/funny position, for example. STILL, I'm definitely NOT condoning the act of laughing at people who badly hurt themselves. That'd be rubbish.
The problem is that some people really feel absolutely no empathy with the other person, what leads to the hilarity of the incongruence being more prominent than the empathic "ouch! factor". What I mean by this is that people who are like this (non-empathic towards people in general or just that specific individual who got hurt) will find the off-the-wall situation funny but won't "feel what he feels" (or will ignore the other's hurt feeling for the lack of empathy/connection).
Now, on another note, I absolutely bet that you already laughed hundreds of times at friends or even strangers who fell and didn't get hurt or slightly hurt themselves - and it's healthy, good and right to be this way (there are many studies that point to the fact that people who react lightheartedly when they/others are hurt will heal faster both physically as psychologically - it pays off to be "good natured", and to be catastrophic is a no-no.
I think what I said here was really enough, but this is an article that will answer your question perfectly too:
http://www.scientificamerican.com/articl鈥?/a>|||I think it's just that spur of the moment not so much that they hurt themselves but some times the way in which they do so is unit because it's so unpredictable and ransom
Sure I laugh from time to time but then quickly make sure they are alright
You got to admit a person falling on their face while walking with an ice cream cone and falls face first because they tripped over a little dog can hurt like he'll- but also the odds of that when it happens is just out eight comical|||i think i (and most others) find people hurting themselves due to their own stupidity funny. i wouldn't laugh at a car crash, and i would think anyone who did has a problem. but painfull misshaps as long as no lasting harm is done, are hilarious. maybe it's relief that someone else has done it, and not yourself. i've hurt myself stupidly, and felt i deserved to be laughed at.
now, where did i put that garden rake...|||Because usually it is stupid people doing stupid things that can only end badly. These people have no common sense or put any thought into what they are about to do. That is why I laugh at them.|||I have never thought it was funny when a person hurts themselves. You are not alone. I think the people that laugh at other people are messed up in the head.
